I rented this book to prepare myself for ophthalmic technician, its very detail oriented book with sections about anatomy of eye, skull and orbit, blood supply, pharmacology, photochemistry of vision, neuroanatomy, and so on.

Limited Assistane for the Would Be Ophthalmic Technologist

I was required to purchase this book. In the two years I was a student in a COMT program, I rarely used it. I did however, buy The Ophthalmic Assistant by my own choice and used it extensively. I cannot give this book any credit for my passing the COMT exam on my first try.

Lawrence Susskind is Ford Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning at MIT, Director of the Public Disputes Program at Harvard Law School, and founder of the Consensus Building Institute. Hallam Movius is a principal at the Consensus Building Institute and is in charge of the Assessment, Coaching and Training services; he also teaches the Program on Technology Negotiation at Harvard Law School.

Turning Negotiation into a Corporate Capability

Very very interesting book. The first book I've found of this topic. Danny Ertel wrote an article about the same theme (HBR May-June 1999), but this is a BOOK. The idea of the book is to ensure - expecially leaders and bosses - that negotiation skills should be an organizational capability. Authors show how the earlier way to think about negotiations is uneffective when it is based only on capability of certain individuals. In this case, it is impossible to learn anything of wins or losses and then only some negotiators know the way to success. The book suggests how the whole organization can climb to a higher level in negotiations. You should read this book, if you teach or consult negotiation. It also gives advices to leaders, who want to create a word-class negotiating organization.

My Gain is Your Pain

As someone who used to work for a large manufacturing organization,
and who was sent to several negotiating workshops, all I can say is
where was this book 10 years ago???

One of my biggest frustrations after returning from a negotiations
training program was the sense that while I may have been marginally
more prepared to Get to Yes at a tactical level I was still operating
in the weeds strategically. The price increase I proudly managed to
wrangle from a customer with no other options may have been great for
the bottom line over the near term but it ignored the quality
improvements that an overloaded engineering department would have to
deliver, or the division manager who eventually wanted to shut that
product line down, or even the fact that it caused lasting damage to
the relationship with the hijacked customer.

While I worried about my BATNA Rome was burning and there was no way
to really understand why until after the fact. Not until now.
Because as Movius and Susskind have so clearly pointed out it is about
the system stupid! It seems so obvious but the more companies can
do to get sales and engineering and finance (and even the
customers) aligned around a common set of (measurable) objectives the
better the outcome of any negotiation will be. And the more those
successes are shared and encouraged throughout the organization the
more people will learn and the more engrained this more holistic
approach will become. The book has lots of great real life examples
to help illustrate both the common traps that we all fall into and the
significant benefits that companies like HP and McDonald's have gained
from adopting this more systematic approach. If you read nothing
else, the chapter that outlines the basic building blocks of the
authors' Mutual Gains Approach is especially helpful. For those
of you have worked in the trenches and fought multi-front battles
within your own organization you will wonder why such good common
sense has not been adopted more broadly already.

About the Author
Joe Russell grew up in the San Francisco Bay area where he attended Cal State Hayward. After being injured in a hydroplane accident, he took to sailing on the Bay, which, in 1968, led to a yacht delivery job to the Virgin Islands where he set up residence. While living in the Caribbean Joe sailed to most of the countries of Central and South America. Joe's articles on Central America have been featured in Cruising World magazine. Joe is author of Exploring the Marquesas Islands. Joe currently lives in Half Moon Bay, California with his wife and first mate, Mary. He is the father of four and a recent grandfather of twins.

BEST TEACHING ON ROMANS 10 GIFTS

I ordered these CDs several years ago and they have truly changed my life. That's a big statement for me. I've been a Christian for over 35 years and have studied almost every book on spiritual gifts. This teaching on the Rom. 10 motivational gifts supercedes them all. They are wonderful and bring tremendous insight into why we are motivated in the ways that we individually are. Finally I was able to understand why God created me with the personality that He did. These truths have brought great freedom, healing and connection with my destiny that I didn't have before. They do not cover the manifestation spiritual gifts which many automatically think of like the word of wisdom, prophecy, miracles, etc. These CDs discuss the motivational gift mix that define your orientation to life, the key to what motivates you, etc.

This CD set should be basic for every believer and will really revolutionize your understanding of who you are, once you hear and study them.

OH MY GOSH...AMAZING! This has been so enlightening for me and my family, but especially as a parent. It has given me so much insight into how my young kids think depending on their redemptive gifts. It has been immensely helpful in how I advise them. It has really helped them in relating to other kids as school. It has given them a peek into how a person is struggling, what their strengths are, where their pitfalls are....how to help them without them even knowing it. Priceless. We see how we can help or hurt a person & situation because of the knowledge we have gained. Must have for parents at least, but I can't imagine not knowing this information period. This is beyond helpful no matter how you slice it. It's been helpful even with training animals. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. It translates into EVERY SINGLE AREA OF LIFE!

About the Author
Arseny Alexandrovich Tarkovsky was born in the Ukrainian city of Elisavetgrad (now Kirovohrad) in 1907 and moved to Moscow in 1923, working as a newspaper journalist and publishing his first poems. By the late 1930s, he had become a noted translator of Turkmen, Georgian, Armenian, Arabic, and other Asian poets. During the Second World War, he served as a war correspondent for the Soviet Army publication Battle Alarm from 1942 to 1944, receiving the Order of the Red Star for valor. Tarkovsky's first volume of his own poems, Before the Snow, emerged in 1962, when the poet was 55, and rapidly sold out. His fame widened when his son, the internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, included some of his father's poems in his films. He died in 1989, just before the Soviet Union fell.

Philip Metres is the author or translator of a number of books and chapbooks including SAND OPERA (Alice James Books, 2015), COMPLEAT CATALOGUE OF COMEDIC NOVELTIES: POETIC TEXTS OF LEV RUBINSTEIN (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2014), A Concordance of Leaves (Diode Press, 2013), abu ghraib arias (Flying Guillotine Press, 2011), TO SEE THE EARTH (Cleveland State University Poetry Center, 2008), and Behind the Lines: War Resistance Poetry on the American Homefront Since 1941 (University of Iowa Press, 2007). His work has garnered two NEA fellowships, the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, five Ohio Arts Council Grants, the Beatrice Hawley Award, two Arab American Book Awards, the Cleveland Arts Prize, the Anne Halley Prize, the PEN/Heim Translation grant, a Russian Institute for Literary Translation grant, and the Creative Workforce Fellowship. He is a professor of English at John Carroll University in Cleveland.

Dimitri Psurtsev, a Russian poet and translator of British and American authors, is a professor at Moscow State Linguistic University and lives outside Moscow with his wife Natalia and daughter Anna. His two books of poetry, Ex Roma Tertia and Tengiz Notepad, were published in 2001 by Yelena Pakhomova Press and translations of his poems were published by the Hudson Review in 2009 and 2011. In 2014 Dimitri received, along with Philip Metres, a PEN/Heim Translation Fund grant for I BURNED AT THE FEAST: SELECTED POEMS OF ARSENY TARKOVSKY.

Excellent anthology of poems by one of Russia's finest (and arguably most underrated) poets!

Historically, Arseny Tarkovsky's poems have had limited exposure in the English language. Though widely known and highly regarded as a great poet in Russia and the former Soviet Union, he is less well-known in the West. His work, nostalgic, spiritual, emotional, and deeply moving, arguably deserves greater exposure in the English-speaking world. This new anthology of selected poems, translated by Philip Metres and Dimitri Psurtsev, not only fills that need but surpasses it with this fantastic and accessible bilingual volume of Tarkovsky's poetry. The translations, which capture the feeling, essence, rhythm, and depth of Tarkovsky's words as best English can, are superb and it is a great treat to see them side-by-side with the original Russian-language texts. The collection is complemented by an excellent afterward by Metres on translating. Overall, it is truly a work jam-packed with so many beautiful words and so much excellent material that it astounds one to think that it is only just over 200 pages long! It is certainly a must-have addition to the library of any serious Slavicist or scholar of Russian poetry.

These poems are beautifully translated, carrying over into English all the passion, emotion, and sensibilities of Tarkovsky. Highly recommended.

May I have a couple more stars please!?

I have been procrastinating somewhat with writing this review, because I doubt I can do this book the justice it deserves.
Firstly it needs to be rated at higher than five stars as it has an intangible quality that places it above all the other five star books that I've been lucky enough to read lately.
I think it's mainly due to the immediacy and tension embodied in the military action scenes, especially the ones at the beginning of the book. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, I had goosebumps and my heart was palpitating. I've obviously never been in the military, never been in a firefight, nor after reading this all too realistic telling of it would I ever wish to be.
It was small relief to then encounter the time travel component. Now these incredibly real characters find themselves in the land of the Norse some thousand years ago - don't refer to them as Vikings, they get rather cranky at that misnomer. And we find ourselves introduced to a whole new group of pretty awesome characters. All of which leads to some amazing adventures and a most terrific read.
This is one you really do not want to miss reading if you enjoy military action mixed with time travel and sprinkled liberally with some heartwarming characters. Evil persons excepted of course!

Good Read, varried Plot

First read from McArdle, I enjoyed the plot and for the first time in 50 + years I had to look up the meaning of words. I blame it on the language barrier. Good Job Keith.
