About the Author
Marc S. Hendrix is a Professor of Geology at The University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Growing up in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Marc developed an early love of geology in the 1970's while working as a field assistant for his father, a biology professor at Gettysburg College. Marc received a bachelor's degree in geology from Wittenberg University in Springfield Ohio in 1985 and a master's degree in geology and geophysics from The University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987. In 1992, he graduated with a Ph.D. in applied earth sciences from Stanford University, where he conducted research on the geologic record of mountain building and ancient climate in western China. Afterwards, he worked at Stanford as a post-doctoral researcher, analyzing the geologic history of Mongolia. Marc joined the faculty at The University of Montana in 1994 where he has developed a field-based research program focused on the geology of the northern Rocky Mountains. He continues to travel within the U.S. and overseas to conduct geologic research and currently lives in Missoula with his wife and two sons.

Gray Thompson is Professor of Geology at The University of Montana where he teaches Introductory Geology, Mineralogy, Summer Field Mapping, and graduate courses in Clay Mineralogy and Shale Petrology. He has published over 20 research papers in international journals, mostly co-authored with his students. He is also a mountaineer and professional guide with first ascents, many with Jon Turk, of peaks and routes in the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, the Yukon, Baffin Island, the Alps, the Karakoram, and the Himalayas. He has authored many articles published in international climbing magazines and journals, and has been the subject of other articles in these publications. Many of the photographs in his texts were taken by Thompson and Turk on their climbing trips and expeditions over the last eighteen years.

Not really about gender at all. It's mostly about how multiple systems of oppression (race, class, age, gender, etc.) work together. What little content there is about gender, if you're curious enough to be reading this book, you already know.

I want to love this book.

I wanted so much to like this book, really I did. Not bad, but very repetitive without making it's point clearly. Got more help from a website which said "If you are thinking you are gender dysphoric, you probably are."

Main positive: De-constructing the binary. Brilliant, straight forward (giggle) and to the point. Thank you from the bottom of my soul for that, it is the whole reason for the stars this book gets.

Main negative: Too much pressure sell once the binary was de-constructed. I got it, now give me some hints on how to use it instead of trying to resell me on the non-existent binary.

We used this book in my English class. When I first saw the title, I didn't think it was appropriate for the class, but decided that I would enter into this quarter with an open mind. Needless to say, this book was very educational for me. Not about myself, but about learning about the different gender types.

It looks like there was a total re-vamping of this code between the 1992 version and the 1999 version. I haven't seen the 1999 or later versions, but my 1992 BCRMS does not match at all what is in my Structural Engineering Reference Manual, which references the 1999 code.

Artificial evolution is also utilised to search for alternative control systems and behaviors that match the constraints of small flying robots. Specifically, the basic sensory modalities of insects, vision, gyroscopes and airflow sense, are applied to develop navigation controllers for indoor flying robots. These robots are capable of mapping sensor information onto actuator commands in real time to maintain altitude, stabilize the course and avoid obstacles. The most prominent result of this novel approach is a 10-gram microflyer capable of fully autonomous operation in an office-sized room using fly-inspired vision, inertial and airspeed sensors.

Wonderful, meaningful story!

Ever since he was a little kid, Liam wasn't little. By the time he turns twelve, he's way taller than his dad, let alone his classmates. He has to shave. Everyone mistakes him for an adult--and he hates it. Until...he's the only kid allowed to ride the new super ride at the amusement park...and adults treat him with respect...and he (almost) gets away with test-driving a Porsche. And he somehow cons his way into being the "parent chaperone" to the first four kids in space. Which is absolutely cosmic, as he would say--until the kids start acting like typical kids and break the ship. What they need is a dad to come rescue them--but Liam is the only dad they've got.
You come across a few books in your lifetime that really surprise you. You come across a few that make you laugh until you're crying. You come across a few that have such profound depth and meaning that when you finish them they settle into your gut so you'll always remember the way you felt reading them. You hardly ever come across one that embodies all these qualities; Cosmic is such a book. I finished it a week ago and held off writing the review so I didn't just gush meaninglessly (I did that to my family and friends). Now that I've stopped raving, here are my more organized thoughts:
To start with the negative (note the use of the singular), the structure was confusing. Liam begins telling his story to his parents from space, through recording himself on his phone--which makes for a very cool opening. But once we get to the point in the story where he began telling it, there is a disconnect. The time and circumstances have to be reestablished a few times, which can be disorienting. Unfortunately, it felt that a story which could more simply have been told in past tense after it was all over, began in the middle for the sake of a killer opening paragraph.
That said--deal with the confusion. Seriously. Because... we're on to the positives: brilliant voice, wonderful humor, the coolest tribute to Roald Dahl ever. (You'll have to figure it out yourselves.) If you like Science fiction, you'll be impressed by the author's attention to research and detail; if you don't, you'll still love Cosmic for the characters, the story, the subtlety with which a very important message is conveyed.
Ok, I'm going to go gush to my family some more now.

I read once that if you don't tell your wife you love her, someone else will. I laughed. You don't have to be a diehard romantic to give this book. I'm a tongue tied procrastinator when it comes to expressing love. So I got this book this week because it actually looks fun to do. Great questions, checklists and fill-in-the-blanks are leading me through putting into words what I love about my wife. You know, before someone else does. Ha.

I gave this to my bf for V-day this year and he really enjoyed reading though it. It took me over 3 hours to fill it out b/c you have to think of stories, memories, etc from your relationship. I've been dating him for a year and a half, but I think this book is more geared toward those who have been in a relationship longer or are married.

Fun Gift For Seasoned Couples

I bought this book as a Valentines Day gift for my boyfriend. I'm still currently in the process of filling it out, but I'm having a fun time doing so. There are a ton of questions to answer. Some questions are deep, thoughtful, and loving, while others are just fun and wacky. The book is definitely geared to couples who have been in a relationship for at least a year or more I would say. Don't buy this book if your love is just starting out because some questions are too advanced for new love.

Pros:
The book does allow you to express your feelings in a fun and different way.
There are little sections where you can tape in photos or little keepsakes from earlier times.
There are a variety of questions and silly little checklists to do that are fun to answer and enjoyable to read.

Cons:
A few of the questions seem to be somewhat repetitive or similar to each other, it's hard to come up with a different answer for those ones.
By the time I reached the middle of the book, I was sick of love. lol. I began to feel cheesey mainly b/c there are so many pages to this book. It's not just a quick fill out, this takes TIME. I think the book could have been shorter and still have gotten the same point across.

Overall this is a great gift for any couple looking to express their love in a different light. However, just make sure you have the time and patience to do it before you start!
