Olivia and Eloise, make room for Betty Bunny, a loveable handful nobunny can resist.

From the creator of Disney’s Dog with a Blog, this funny book in the Betty Bunny series shows the value of honesty from a preschooler’s special point of view.

When Betty Bunny breaks a lamp, she has a brand-new idea: Blame it on someone else (like the Tooth Fairy)! Then a vase gets broken and Betty Bunny really didn't do it. But now no one in her family believes her. Honest lies, white lies, crying wolf—how can one four-year-old figure out the right thing to do?

From School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1—Betty Bunny develops a lying problem. First she lies about a broken lamp and then changes her story as she thinks it will benefit her. Betty's siblings and mom jump in to help Betty see the importance of telling the truth. This is a family affair, and everyone gets involved, with each character's unique personality popping out. Betty does learn her lesson but with a twist that will leave readers cheering. Narrator Katherine Kellgren does a nice job capturing Betty's emotions and the sometimes chaotic feel of family life. Her pacing allows listeners time to enjoy the accompanying illustrations without feeling rushed. Readers can choose to follow along with or without page turns signals; the recording uses the sound of a page turning, which is less intrusive than the loud beep found with some read-along titles. VERDICT This latest Betty Bunny title is a winner for young listeners.—Deanna Romriell, Salt Lake City Public Library, UT

From Booklist
Here’s an understatement: “Betty Bunny is a handful.” The irrepressible star of Betty Bunny Loves Chocolate Cake (2011) and Betty Bunny Wants Everything (2012) has developed a bit of a lying problem, blaming a broken lamp on the tooth fairy. When no one believes her, she changes her story, saying the tooth fairy forced her to lie (“if Betty Bunny didn’t lie, she’d throw a big bag of baby teeth at her”). All is sorted in the end, even if our gal cleverly reinterprets the lesson to suit herself. Betty Bunny is still utterly relatable as a girl going through the trials and tribulations of toddlerhood—as is her family, along for the ride. Grades K-3. --Ann Kelley

Maybe not appropriate for a 3yo
By Valery
I got this book at the library for my 3 year old daughter.
I often seek books on Amazon that are well reviewed and am pleased with the new books we find but I wasn't impressed with this one. I found myself changing certain words and the ending of the story so it would adapt to a 3 year old.
I didn't feel comfortable with reading how parents were 'going to kill you' or 'big fat liar'. I don't want my daughter calling anyone a 'big fat anything'. The story also has an unexpected ending, explaining why it's okay to lie not to hurt people's feelings which I don't feel is appropriate for a 3 year old to learn. If you see life from the standpoint of a 3yo mom would be sad if you broke the lamp so that makes it ok to lie?? I think not.

She did love the bunny and the general outline of the story but in the end, with all the wonderful books out there, we won't be reading this one again.

HYSTERICAL!
By Mandy
This is one of my favorite picture books to be released in the past year, and as a bookseller, I saw them all. Betty's previous adventures are also very cute, but this installment is the best by far. Betty is a charming and endearing young heroine, and her entire family is vividly and humorously portrayed; a real feat with so few words. Betty's lessons learned about the advantages and pitfalls of truth-telling will have kids and adults alike laughing out loud in recognition. This book is truly a delight and destined to be read over and over again...

Teaches a Dual Message
By Nancy
This is a tough day for Betty Bunny, she is about to learn a hard lesson when it comes to lying.

When no one wants to play with Betty, she decides to take matters into her own hands and a lamp is broken. Quickly trying to hide the evidence, she is soon caught, but instead of owning up to her actions, she devises a fantastical story involving the tooth fairy and a bag of baby teeth.

Being called out by her mother, it is explained to her that lying is not okay. Betty is sticking to her story, but in a typical play on the Boy Who Cried Wolf, another item is broken and no one believes that it is not Betty's fault.

This day is just getting tougher and tougher until her brother confesses to the incident and is rewarded for his honesty. Confusion ensues and silly Betty is suddenly confessing to all sorts of things.

Swearing to tell the truth brings about confusions - that is where this book teaches a dual message of honesty and doing your best not to hurt other people's feelings.

Do not miss a great prompting opportunity to open up conversations between adults and children on honesty.
