In this powerful crescendo to Eugenia Price’s acclaimed Florida Trilogy, young and headstrong Margaret Seton vows to win the heart of grieving widower Lewis Fleming.
Margaret’s Story tells of the heartwarming relationship between the bold Margaret and her beloved Lewis, and how it plays out against dangerous and tumultuous events while spanning almost half a century. Experiencing Seminole uprisings, Florida’s burgeoning statehood, the Civil War, and the challenges of Reconstruction, Margaret holds her devoted family together with love, strength, and faith. Even the tragedy of seeing their beloved plantation on the St. John’s River, Hibernia, destroyed twice, and having sons and husband pitted against each other in war cannot break Margaret’s spirit or shake her faith. Her unconditional love, unflagging conviction in God, and contagious hope impact her descendants, a young state, and indeed a nation.

From the Seminole uprisings to the Civil War, they fought for their bleoved plantation, their family, and their faith. . .Margaret Seton had loved the handsome young widower long before she become Lewis Fleming's bride. Together they would rebuild Hibernia on the St. Johns River in northern Florida, and fill it to overflowing with laughter and tears of their large, close-knit family. But nothing could have prepared them for the revages of war, the rampaging Seminoles, then the victorious Yankees plundering their cherished South, calling Margaret's husband and sons to battle, and her daughters to frightening new times. And above all, calling upon Margaret herself in this hour of need to become their wellspring of hope and faith.

A wonderful accounting of history.
By A Customer
This is beautiful true story of a woman who lived and loved in in Northern Florida during the 1800s. Margaret Seton had always loved Louis Fleming from the time she was a young girl and admired him from a distance as she was many years his junior. Years later when Louis' wife died leaving him to raise his children alone; Margaret was determined to capture the heart of the love of her life. The book brings the life of this incredible woman to life. Myself, living on the shores of Doctor's Lake on Fleming Island, I was drawn into their lives, and I felt as if I were there watching the Flemings as Margaret's joy and heartbreak came alive on the pages. I cried right along with Margaret, Louis and the children. At times, I found myself wondering if the Fleming family had ever picniced on my property or perhaps Louis and his son's had sailed by or fished out back. I couldn't put this book down. After finishing the book I was compelled to visit Hibernia. I saw the Chapel that Louis had built for Margaret and visited the family grave plot. It was as though I knew them. A definite must read for anyone that has an appreciation of the Old South or loves history. Accurate in details.

Price's best
By A Customer
For fans of Eugenia Price, this is her best. In my opinion Margaret's Story comes from an era years ago when Ms Price was at her best writing. Although the Civil War is becoming an increasingly common subject for fiction, M.S. is set in North Florida, a state that many forget was part of the Confederacy. Ms. Price chronicles generations of this state's history, from Indian wars into Reconstruction, through the eyes of the factual woman Margaret Fleming. Here Ms Price is at her best with characterizations-they're more full-blooded here than in any other of her novels. The story is often tragic but never boring. The character is one with whom the reader cannot help but follow.
