Thriving on Adaptability: Best Practices for Knowledge Workers, by Nathaniel Palmer, Keith D Swenson, John T Matthias, Ilia Bider, Dr Will

Adaptive Case Management is ultimately about allowing knowledge workers to work the way that they want to work and to provide them with the tools and information they need to do so effectively.

Surendra Reddy points out in his Foreword:
Imagine a fully integrated ACM system layered into the value stream of an enterprise. The customer support team is able to focus on customer needs, with easy access to the entire company s repertoire of knowledge, similar cases, information, and expertise, as if it were a service. To truly accommodate customers, companies must vest real power and authority in the people and systems that interact directly with customers, at the edge of the organization and beyond.
ACM empowers the knowledge worker to collaborate, derive new insights, and fine tune the way of doing business by placing customers right in the center where they belong, to drive innovation and organizational efficiencies across the global enterprise.
It s a whole different thing; a new way of doing business that enables organizations to literally become one living-breathing entity via collaboration and adaptive data-driven biological-like operating systems.
ACM, in my opinion, is the future blueprint for the way of doing business.

Thriving on Adaptability describes the work of managers, decision makers, executives, doctors, lawyers, campaign managers, emergency responders, strategists and many others who have to think for a living. These are people who figure out what needs to be done at the same time that they do it.

In award-winning case studies covering industries as a diverse as law enforcement, transportation, insurance, banking, state services, and healthcare, you have instructive examples to optimize your own organization.

This book is specially helpful to BPM professionals, who are involved with BPM related solution development. It covers award-winning case studies covering various industries. It also covers the practical example and the product reviews. CM/ACM (Case Management & Adaptive Case management) solution requires a shift in thought process for delivering a successful solution. Reading through the case studies helps in formulating your own best practices, habits and tools and broadening your thinking process in developing the CM/ACM solutions.

My Sandbox, Your Sandbox by Keith D Swenson, presents a canonical example of how case work can be shared across organizational boundaries between people who

typically use different case management systems. and promotes a federated approach, a federated case architecture where it allows the knowledge workers to interact, share and cooperate across organization.

Understanding and Evaluating Case Management software by Nathaniel & Lloyd Dugan, provides a clarity and perspective for understanding and evaluation the platform for delivering the Case Management solution. It tries to clear the confusion around "BPM vs Case Management". It talks about implications of different design approaches.

Ontology base ACM, by Jurgen Kress, Clemens, Hajo & Torsten Winterberg, draws an example of Mars rover. "the scientist who operate the rover are knowledge workers. Just like Knowledge workers in a business setting, they must figure out how to accomplish goals as they uncover new information that affects their goals".

Combining compliance with Flexibility by Helle Frisak Sem, Steinar & Gunnar John Coll, talks about combining compliance with flexibility and present a real life experience from Norwegian Public Sector. It encourage to keep the information in the center rather than the process, to achieve the harmony between compliance and flexibility.

Justice is served through production Case Management, by John Matthias, uses the Judicial court case (National Centre for State Courts, US) and delves into best method for process programming.

Using Process Mining to improve ACM processes by Dr. William A. Brantley presents a case for mining case data to enhance the business processes.

I liked the case paper, Enterprise as a system of process by Aleaxander SAMARIN. It is a good read and gives enough information about the process patterns in evolving your CM/ACM.
