Provides new ideas, patterns, insights

(a) The book offers a number of practical insights into the use of technical analysis for trading. It provides a hands on (how do you decide the market is non trending?), rather than a theoritical approach(use oscillators in non trending markets).

(b) It is not an easy read, but I could get to some of the ideas on my second attempt. This is not a problem, but just a warning not to expect an easy reading experience.

(c) A number of nuggets are hidden in the pages. Bollinger Bands, Multiple time frames, Patterns for deciding a market reversal, using MACD to determine a continuation. Probably every page has some setup, strategy to discuss. I think a patient reader will obtain any number of good ideas from the book.

A step forward

It follows the tradition of Elder and DeMark, but goes further in providing a rationale for the trading system. The proposed system differs but apparently benefited from the ideas behind the Adaptive Moving Averages. The best feature of the book is that it allows one to think systematically about market dynamics and the failures of the indicators. It is conceptually intuitive, but requires patience to get over the details.

The book offers a much needed critical evaluation of the accepted wisdom in technical analysis and provides a constructive way forward. The author does an excellent job in pointing out the major pitfalls of technical analysis and presents an effective framework to address them. A mind-opening work, a must read if you wish to do your own thinking. Basic knowledge about technical analaysis is necessary to appreciate the powerful insight offered by the book.

Salley Vickers is a former university professor of literature and Jungian psychotherapist. Miss Garnet’s Angel, her first novel, was a book club favorite and an international bestseller. A good read in Venice

I read the book and enjoyed it while visiting Venice. Well written, insightful, and combines travel and art information with a human story and a mystery. Something for everyone.

This novel was not what I expected. It was better. I really enjoyed both sides of the novel. It tells both the story of a Jew and his experience with the Angel Raphael BC and a modern woman's life-enhancing trip to Venice. Her self awareness grows with her exposure to life lived with the everydayness of Venetians. Her eye- opening experience with the perfect gentleman and her push towards a life well-lived rather than stepping back into bitterness was more satisfying than I expected. So the book offers surprises, though I've read the BC story before somewhere. Thoroughly enjoyable with a satisfying end.

Life (and Death) in Venice

Middle-aged schoolmistress Julia Garnet, grieving after the death of her long-term friend and flatmate (but not, we infer, her lover), moves to Venice with a six-month rental on a small apartment off the Grand Canal. Miss Garnet is a spinster, a Communist and an atheist. She very quickly falls in love - not once but twice.

Her first love, an art historian, proves to be an unwise choice. Her second love, depicted in painting and sculpture in various churches and galleries, is the Archangel Raphael who famously accompanied the apocryphal prophet Tobias across the land of Assyria to meet the demonically possessed woman he was destined to love.

Salley Vickers alternates the story of Miss Garnet and the people she meets in Venice with a re-telling in vernacular English of Tobias's ancient odyssey. And as the city with its canals casts a spell over Julia's heart, this biblical romance frees her spirit - her soul - from a dormancy that has lasted her entire life.

The writing of this beguiling novel is elegant but unfussy, the kind of writing, you feel, that Jane Austen might be producing if she were alive today. In contrast to Tobias's cinematic adventures, events in modern Venice move at an unhurried pace, but Miss Garnet's 'awakening' makes her an endearing if not entirely lovable heroine. Defying categorization, this is a spiritual quest that spans almost three millennia.

I think it is usefull for trained therapists as well as for amateurs like me. Great book indeed

This is the third book i have read on TCM and the first time i am not confused at the end of it. Even from the first chapters you begin to realise how to separate the ilnesses according to TCM theory and little by little you get into deeper principles of acupuncture in a very understandble way.Of course one book is not enough if you are just starting to get into TCM. Seminars are needed. I think it is usefull for trained therapists as well as for amateurs like me. Great book indeed.

I gave it 5 stars because the way she teaches the 5 elements make the reader understand CTM and apply it to clinical practice, the book is not a how to do or step by step practical acupuncture treatment; the book takes you to the total knowledge of the chinesse medicine and perhaps the all Universe acting manner.

A "clear guide to internet technologies": this is it - read it! It's well produced, clearly illustrated, a concise paperback of 150 pages, easy to read and full of information. As a Professional Telecoms Engineer and internet user, I found myself captivated from cover to cover, with one question after another handled and answered. Some will be irritated by its simplifications and will want to go further, but it is an excellent introduction and summary overview of the whole subject.
It begins with the History of the Internet and its dependence on the TCP Internet Protocol (Chapter 1) clearly explaining the conventions for naming and addressing (Ch 2), the Domain Name System (DNS - Ch 3), and the Windows Internet Naming System (WINS - Ch4). Do you know what a Fully Qualified Domain Name is (FQDN), a NetBIOS name, a MAC address and how they relate: you will when you have read through these chapters.
The next three chapters consider the evolution of three of the internet services: FTP (Ch 5), World Wide Web (Ch 6) and E-mail (Ch 7). The WWW (Ch 6) is characterised by HTML (devised by a Brit) the standard hypertext mark up language, which introduced the concept of a "hyperlink". There is useful discussion on Browsers and the use of the Universal Resource Locater (URL). When you have read about e-mail (Ch 7) you'll understand the terminology of your computer support department when they refer to: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and POP3 (Post Office Protocol).
If you travel round with your lap top, and link up to the internet at various locations, then it may be useful to understand how the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP - Ch 8) allocates IP addresses to your PC.
You'll be introduced to the Index Server and Proxy Server (Ch 9), Simple Network Management Protocol (Ch 10), Security, Data Encryption and E-Commerce (Ch 11), and (in Ch 12) the five examples of how all the parts function together, followed (in Ch 13) by useful information on Search Engines and how to register your own Domain Name and Web Presence.
The Author scans the future (in Ch 14) in terms of the evolution of IP, use of ADSL and Napster, and (in Ch 15) Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), UMTS and Bluetooth. Appendix A is a useful overview of the physical structure of the internet, and Appendix B gives some useful URLs. The book is furnished with a helpful glossary and index.
This book is highly recommended for users of the internet who will be greatly helped by a real appreciation of the internet technologies, and how they all work together. It will also provide a valuable framework for those who specialise in some of the technologies, and a good introduction for students. It may be a little expensive at $39.99 but this reviewer thinks it is good value for money.
